Not sure, at the moment, why any commercial business venture would want to use this over their own properly developed website, or even to complement their main home?.
Social platforms already complement websites of all sorts of artists/creative people/athletes and stars and whatnot, and the same goes for publishers and all sorts of commercial ventures.
And the main website for any form of commercial venture is far too important to rely on a free and so far very basic Google product as their main home on the web. And if they already have a proper website, and a social platform presence, how is this in any way helping out with ranking and search engine indexing in a credible real-life way, not to mention with actual customer credibility, products, sales, conversations, exposure etcetera.
So I have to say that so far I just do not see the real life use for this.
Sure, who knows where google will take it down the road. But for now, I would not recommend anyone spending time and resources on this.

Michael A Koontz there are still many businesses with no website at all. There are a couple of casual restaurants near me that only have Facebook pages, for example. This simple website option by Google is probably better than that.
Mike Koontz says
Better than nothing yes, but I´d never advice a proper business to go without a real website home and only rely on fb´s notorious whims.

Michael A Koontz Peggy K on the same page with both of you!
I checked more of the pages I manage and I was surprised to find the new instant website option available for businesses with well established own sites. IMHO, this should be offered to business listing without any site, only.
Not mentioning about the confusion businesses face figuring out their content managing strategy with G+ brand pages. On the screen of “business info”, it reads “see your business on Google” and Search, Maps, G+ icons are there. Yet, as Michael mentions, we don’t know where Google takes it down the road. Bigger choice might handle the right solution for more users?!
Peggy K says
It will be interesting to see what Google does with it. It locks business owners into the Google ecosystem, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, if the business doesn’t have the money or interest in managing a self-hosted website.

Thank you for stopping by on this comment thread Mike Blumenthal! I first listened to you on hangouts on G+, when we were putting cities on the maps:) Now it’s done, with GMB and G+ being separate.
I most liked the item in your analyses pointing out relevant and updated data with the new instant website for GMB. The reaction with created sites is impressive! Thank you for the link to your great article! Wish you best of success!

I”m from South Africa. I registered a business with the name reverse Osmosis system on my business. If I search for reverse osmosis system my website do not appear on the right hand side of the page. I have tap water SA and that appears on the right hand side. I have my doubts about Google my business.
Mike Blumenthal says
Just because you created a website and added a business does not mean that you will immediately show up. Google needs to trust your business and then decide if it is relevant. That takes some time. And may require some additional effort on your part.
Nina Trankova says
Henry Collins as Mike Blumenthal said some effort is needed.
I can tell you are on the right way with your Collection “Osmosis systems”, so keep up. Be welcome on the 27th of June to the livestream event on the official Google Collections Community, best practice to learn from leading experts. Join here: Google+ Collections
